greensleeves x TRK

Greensleeves is marking its 45th anniversary by taking over The Rum Kitchen on Carnaby Street. You may ask why a 45th Anniversary? – Well, if you know you know. The UK record label is synonymous with the West London music scene – only a stone’s throw away from our first Rum Kitchen site in Notting Hill.

Mark your calendars. Greensleeves x Rum Kitchen is taking over Soho on 1st June – bringing the sounds of Jamaica and British Reggae to Carnaby Street. With free entry and special offers – like complimentary cocktails! – it’s a night you don’t want to miss. Get a head start on your jubilee bank holiday weekend by celebrating Greensleeves’ 45th anniversary with us at Rum Kitchen, Soho.

Celebrate Greensleeve’s 45th Anniversary

Step back in time to Shepherd’s Bush in 1977. At 44 Uxbridge Road, you’d find a record shop famous for its Jamaican music. 1977 is the year Greensleeves changed the UK music industry forever – bringing the sounds of Jamaica even closer to London by releasing its own music.

Greensleeves Records created a golden era of Reggae, becoming the home of Caribbean-influenced black British music. It defined the genre as the pioneer of Dancehall music and the Rub-A-Dub style. All of our favourite Dancehall and Rub-A-Dub artists have gone through the doors of Greensleeves Records – from Wailing Souls to Freddie McGregor and Elephant Man.

Fast forward to today, and Greensleeves has an unrivaled record as the King of British Reggae music. Its catalogue includes over 20,000 tracks that have come to define the genre. Over its 45 years, Greensleeves has nurtured generations of Dancehall and Rub-A-Dub fans and built a loyal following that spans beyond the UK and across the world. Greensleeves Record has a special place in all our hearts at The Rum Kitchen as a heritage label.
