#BREAKTHEBIAS – Honesty Box Lunch On International Women’s Day

honesty box lunch food

Here at The Rum Kitchen, we’re all about supporting our sistas. That’s why we’re recognising International Women’s Day, with an honesty box lunch supporting The Fawcett Society, a charity that campaigns for women’s rights and gender equality.

We’re hosting the honest box lunch in our Brighton, Shoreditch and Brixton restaurants from 12pm-3pm, on the 8th March. Book your table now.

So why not treat yourself this International Women’s Day by eating some delicious Caribbean food and know that you’re helping the fight for equality?

Who is The Fawcett Society?

Originally, they were called the London National Society for Women’s Suffrage, and they peacefully campaigned for women’s right to vote. When that had been achieved, they started to challenge sexism in other places and changed their name to honour their founder, Millicent Fawcett.

Today, The Fawcett Society gathers information and helps to prevent sexism and and sexual harrasment in the workplace, produces the biannual Sex and Power Index which examines the role gender and ethnicity plays in appointing influential people such as CEOs, politicians and other top job roles, and offers an equal pay advice service, which provides legal advice to help women receive fair and equal pay, specifically for those with lower incomes.

The Rum Kitchen recognises the crucial work that The Fawcett Society does and is helping to raise funds to keep them doing what they do. So on the 8th of March, we invite you to order a starter and a main, and pay what you think is fair. All the money will go to The Fawcett Society to support their work.

It’s that simple. Delicious food, great vibes and financial support for a crucial organisation.

Our individual actions against sexism and gender inequality are important, but sometimes it’s more fun – and effective – to stand together, celebrate sisterhood and work in unison to campaign for women’s rights. The Fawcett Society has been doing this for over a century. They bring equality, and we’ll bring the rice and peas!

Book your table on the 8th March, at one of our Brighton, Brixton & Shoreditch between 12pm and 3pm to partake in the honesty box lunch, and help us raise money for such a worthy cause.
